Teardrop

Teardrop is a nine-minute work for solo marimba, written about tears and the multitude of reasons that cause them. Some tears are for joy, some are for pain, some are for happiness, some are for sorrow, and some are simply from a little dust in your eye. Whatever the case, the performer should approach this piece personally, introspectively, and passionately, exploring a variety of emotions as deeply as possible. Performance Notes: Teardrop is scored for a 4.5 octave marimba (low F), with the option of expansion to a five-octave instrument. When performing with the 4.5 octave range, the notes not available may be omitted. Dynamics and tempo markings are merely guidelines or suggestions the performer should feel freedom to explore phrasings, tempi, and expressions at his/her discretion.
